What is Social Dancing?
Forget everything you know about choreographed routines. Social dancing is about improvisation, connection, and having fun in the moment.
What is Social Dancing?
If you've ever watched "Dancing with the Stars" and thought, "I could never remember all those steps," we have good news for you: Social dancing is completely different.
Social dancing is not about performing for an audience. It's about dancing with a partner for the sheer enjoyment of it. It happens at parties, clubs, and socials, where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to share a passion for music and movement.
The Magic of Leading & Following
In social dancing, there is no set choreography. Instead, we use a language of physical signals called "leading and following." One person (the leader) suggests a movement, and the other (the follower) interprets it. This creates a unique, improvised dance every single time.
Do I need a partner?
Absolutely not! This is the biggest myth about social dancing. In fact, most people come to classes alone. In our courses, we rotate partners frequently. This helps you learn faster because you get used to leading or following different people, not just one specific person.
It's also a fantastic way to make new friends. The social dance community in Zurich is incredibly welcoming and diverse.
Is it hard to learn?
Like any new skill, it takes a little practice, but the basics are easier than you think. Our Beginner 0 courses are designed for people with "two left feet." We break everything down into simple steps, so you'll be dancing to music by the end of your very first class.
